Technical Committee B5 has submitted Project 1229-D to NCITS for further processing. In accordance with the milestones, the following actions will be initiated by the NCITS Secretariat:

The draft has been reviewed by the NCITS Secretariat and it has been determined to be in compliance with its authorizing project proposal.

There are no coordinating liaisons for this project.

The draft will also be submitted to ANSI for announcement in Standards Action for a forty-five day public review. This draft will be announced for a public review to the NCITS community via a press release (http://www.ncits.org).

In accordance with the NCITS/SD-2, a call for possible patents (and other pertinent issues) is issued on this draft. Please notify the NCITS Secretariat of any related issues as soon as possible.

The draft will be sent to ANSI for preliminary edit in ensure development is in accordance with the ANSI Style Guide or ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.

The scope from the authorizing document and from the dpANS are below. Any NCITS member who would like an electronic copy of the dpANS, please contact the Secretariat. The final version of the draft will be attached with the NCITS letter ballot for final approval.

Scope from NCITS/SD-3:

This proposed Standard represents the minimal environmental, mechanical and magnetics requirements for a 35 Gigabyte Formatted 0.50 inch cartridge for data interchange between systems. It also describes the format, DLT5, used in the recorded portion of the proposed Standard.

Scope from the dpANS:

This standard provides the requirements for a tape cartridge to be used for information interchange among information-processing systems, communication systems, and associated equipment utilizing a standard code for information interchange as agreed upon by the interchange parties.

This standard deals with the requirements for the unrecorded cartridge and for recording on the enclosed magnetic tape. The use of a labeling standard such as American National Standard for Information systems - File structure and labeling of magnetic tapes for information interchange, X3.27-1987 or later editions, will support data interchange between data-processing systems.
