Subject: T11 response to inquiry
about intent to
stabilize HIPPI documents.
Reference: Spittle e-mail dated 1/23/2003, subject "HIPPI Standards"
Dear Ms. Spittle:
As part of an action item from the INCITS EB meeting, you
asked if T11 has any interest in stabilizing the following
HIPPI standards:
INCITS 183:1991 [R2001]
INCITS 222:1997 [R2002]
INCITS 254:1994 [R1999]
INCITS 283:1996 [R2001]
INCITS 300:1997 [R2002]
T11 held a meeting vote on this subject in their plenary meeting
on February 6, 2003 in Newport Beach, CA. As documented in the
enclosed minutes (T11/03-111v0), section 7.5, a motion was made
to continue processing the documents in maintenance status and
not to enter stabilization at this time. The motion passed in
a
meeting vote with 40 in favor, 0 opposed, 2 abstaining, and 16
not voting.
The discussion indicated that, while these standards are not likely
to be changed any time soon, the technologies are developing so
rapidly that maintenance actions, including modification, reaffirmation,
or withdrawal, may be appropriate in future five-year reviews.
We will not be requesting stabilization for these documents.
Sincerely,
Robert Snively, Chair INCITS TC T11
