Subject: ECMA Office Open
XML
Dear Mrs. Lisa
Rajchel,
Please do not support Microsoft's
ECMA Office Open XML. The standard is not open as it is controlled
by Microsoft and Microsoft alone. The specification is also 6,000
pages and a 47 meg pdf file. This is ridiculous as there would only
be one company that could possibly be able to fully implement it and that
is a maybe. With Microsoft's recent patent threats there would
undoubtedly be a fear of stepping on one of Microsoft's patents if a developer
would try to implement their closed standard.
The Open Document Format (ODF) is
already ISO approved and is the standard that is truly open because it is
controlled by an independent standard body. Not to mention that is
is only 700 pages and is easily implemented by any developer.
Please see this link for more information
on the reasons why this standard should not be supported as an ISO standard.

Thank you for your time.
