ITI President's Memo to the INCITS Executive Board
At the invitation of the Transition Team, this will be the first of the quarterly reports to the INCITS Executive Board. This report will highlight some of the activities in support of the new INCITS organization.
Since the last meeting of the INCITS Executive Board, I have had the meetings with media and industry analysts, which we discussed last November, to promote the new INCITS organization. From these initial meetings, I have drawn the conclusion that the INCITS technical program of work is of great interest to those reporting on our community. The fact that a new organization has been established seemed not, in itself, to attract much attention. It is my belief that these meetings are an important part of raising INCITS' profile and should be a regular part of our work.
As you also know, I have been closely monitoring staffing resources to ensure the level of service required to support the INCITS community has been provided during the transition to the new INCITS organization.
ITI Management has worked with the Secretariat staff to shift responsibilities and priorities, as well as identify specific projects that can be out-sourced, during Kate McMillan's absence. Kate's health continues to improve and in February we will begin to see how she tolerates the resumption of a portion of the Secretariat's work. With Kate's expected gradual return, we anticipate a smooth resumption of normal operations.
Once the new organization is underway we will evaluate the appropriate levels required to support the new INCITS organizational structure and activities. In the meantime, INCITS Executive Board members are encouraged to contact Jennifer, Monica or me if there are concerns with the current services provided by the INCITS Secretariat or observations that may assist our evaluation.
I look forward to working with the new INCITS during this start-up period to ensure that the new organization's priorities are aligned with available resources, costs are contained and new revenue sources are pursued. After such a long journey, you should be justifiably proud to have taken some very positive steps forward.
