Subject: Apple Computer Contribution Concerning the Vice Chairman of the INCITS Executive Board
From: Dave Michael, Apple Computer

Jennifer,

Apple Computer, recognizing there were no candidate submissions to the Second Call for Vice Chair to the EB, wishes to recommend to the Executive Board a change in the EB officer structure.

During the Transition Team meetings last year, Apple made the recommendation that the Standards Development Board (SDB) Chair and the Standards Policy Board (SPB) Chair serve as Co-Vice Chairs to the Executive Board.  There was considerable discussion on this recommendation with a result of a majority of the group deciding that an elected Vice Chair would be more preferable.

Currently, INCITS has approximately 20 voting members.  The transition plan for officer elections at the Executive Board calls for 8 elected positions: EB Chair, EB Vice-Chair, SDB Chair, SPB Chair, Finance Board Committee Chair, Marketing Board Committee Chair, Long Range Planning  Board Committee Chair, and Procedures  Board Committee Chair. A 40% ratio of officers to total members is a bit excessive and ways to look for officer consolidation should be given serious consideration.

Therefore, Apple recommends that the Standards Development Board (SDB) Chair and the Standards Policy Board (SPB) Chair serve as Co-Vice Chairs to the Executive Board.  Please post this recommendation to the agenda for action at the April Meeting of the Executive Board.

Thank you,

Dave Michael
