Informal Description of Work:

J3 developes the Fortran programming language, with guidance from WG5.

1. Executive Summary

J3 is on-schedule to report Fortran 2008 to WG5, and to develop the Further Interoperability with C type 2 TR.

2. Significant Accomplishments

J3 has processed interpretations requests for Fortran 2003 and furthered them to WG5 for incorporation into ISO corrigenda.

3. Significant Challenges

Adding co-arrays to Fortran to make a full-fledged parallel programming language was a significant effort.

4. Expected Challenges

Completion of Fortran 2008 will continue to occupy J3's full time and attention.

a. Previous Year's Meetings:

6. Liaison Activities

J3 has liaisons with H2, J11 and OWG-V. J3 tracks with interest IEEE 754r.

7. Membership and Officers

We do not need a separate list of the members, but we do need to know if there are any trends in membership or other membership issues that would affect the ability of the TC to meet its workload. The list of officers(both elected and appointed) gives some indication of who the key people are and how long they have served.

a. Officers:

The title, name and address of each person that held an office during the year. If an office was held by more than one person, list each and indicate dates in office. Include the date each officer last attended a training course held by the INCITS Secretariat. (Note - the Vocabulary Representative is an officer and should be included in this list.) J3 will continue to work with WG5 to make Fortran the language of choice for large-scale, high-performance, numerical parallel computation.
