NEWS RELEASE Doc No.: PR/95-031 Washington, D.C., April 24, 1995 -- Technical Committee X3H4, responsible for Open Repository Systems, announces its new work area and issues a call for participation by enterprises that are concerned with managing the evolution and operation of the information-based assets belonging to their distributed environments. With the advent of client-server implementations, the need to manage these distributed assets is becoming increasingly evident within all large enterprises. Many public and private organizations are developing specialized solutions for managing these assets; often the same organization develops different solutions for what is basically the same class of problem. Open Repository Systems will provide a common framework for solving this class of problems and will provide an enterprise-wide perspective of these information-based assets, including the perspective of cooperating enterprises. X3H4 is beginning work on standardization of the next generation of repository systems. X3H4 sees itself as the functional architect and requirements source for standard open repository systems. X3H4 is working with the Object Management Group (OMG) to promote rapid development of repository standards. This cooperative effort provides the opportunity for accelerating the development of national and international standards for repository systems technology and their related products. X3H4 also serves as maintainer of existing ANSI Information Resource Dictionary System (IRDS) standards, and represents U.S. interests in the Portable Common Tool Environment (PCTE) international standards. X3H4 will meet four to six times per year, with four meetings co-located with the OMG national meetings. The next meeting of X3H4 will be in San Jose, CA, June 28-30, 1995. If you are interested in participating, contact Dr. Jerry Winkler, X3H4 Chair, at email: JerryWnklr@aol.com or (703) 425-4558. # # # X3 Secretariat, 1250 Eye Street NW, Suite 200, Washington DC 20005 Email: x3sec@itic.nw.dc.us FAX: (202)638-4922 [END]
