Washington, D.C. -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information
Technology announces the two-month public review to
reaffirm
ANSI/ISO 7816-1:1987 and ANSI/ISO 7816-2:1988. The
public review
extends from June 9, 1995 through August 8, 1995.

Part One of this standard specifies the physical
characteristics of integrated
circuit cards with contacts. It applies to cards which have a
physical
interface with electrical contacts and identification cards of
the ID-1 card
type which may include embossing and/or a magnetic
stripe.

Part two defines the dimensions, locations and assignment
for each of the
contacts on integrated circuit(s) cards of an ID-1 card and is
to be used in
conjunction with ISO 7816-1:1987.

These standards were reviewed by the technical experts to
comply with
ANSI procedures, that require a five-year review of
approved
standards. The technical experts recommended this
standard be
reissued without change.
