X3 Announces the Approval of a New Project, Metamodel
for Data
Representation

Washington, D.C., July, 1995 -- Accredited Standards
Committee
X3, Information Technology is announcing Approval of a
New Project,
Metamodel for Data Representation

The goal of data standardization is the maintenance of
meaning over time
and distance. Coherence and persistence of data
descriptions and usage
depend on accurate documentation realized by following
rules described in
standards. Recording and maintaining metadata requires
not only
commitment to standards, but also adherence to a set of
principles and
guidelines based on those standards.

The six part international Standard under development by
ISO/IEC JTC 1
SC 14, Specification and Standardization of Data Elements,
describes a set of standardization methods for six aspects of
data elements:
attribution, classification, definition, naming, identification,
and
registration.

Any individuals or organizations who are materially
affected, have an
interest, and wish to participate should contact the X3L8
Chairman, Mr.
William H. Kenworthy,Jr., 420 Kimblewick Drive, Silver
Spring, MD 20904.
