Accredited Standards Committee* X3, Information Technology NEWS RELEASE Doc. No.: PR/95-0073 Reply to: Lynn Barra (lbarra@itic.nw.dc.us) X3 Announces the Approval of a New Project for Fibre Channel Copper Physical Interface Implementation Guide (FC-CU) Washington D.C., July 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology is announcing the approval of a new project being developed within X3T11, Device Level Interface. This technical report recommends the development of a document describing the implementation, testing, characterization, and design tradeoffs in Fibre Channel compatible electrical interfaces. Included are implementation guidelines and practices for the existing copper physical variants presently documented in X3.230-1994, FC-PH, and those that will be contained in the draft produced by Project 1119-D (FC-PH-3); similar implementation guidelines for the inclusion of new copper media and interface technologies, which incorporate improvements in operating distance, data rate, or cost/performance, into the definitions contained in X3.230-1994, FC-PH, and those that will be contained in the draft produced by Project 1119-D (FC-PH-3); and criteria and methods for testing copper based interfaces to ensure interoperability. Inquiries should be sent to the Chairman of X3T11, Mr. Roger Cummings, Storage Technology Inc., 2270 South 88th Street, Louisville, CO 80028- 0211, roger_cummings@stortek.com. An initial call for patents and pertinent issues (copyrights, trademarks) is now being issued.
