X3 Announces the Public Comment Period for X3.4:1986,
Information Processing - Coded Character Sets - 7-Bit American 
National Standard Code for Information Interchange (7-Bit ASCII)

Washington D.C., August 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, 
Information Technology is announcing the public review of ANSI 
X3.4-1986.  The comment period extends from September 15, 1995 
to November 14, 1995.

This standard is to be used for information interchange among 
information processing systems, communication systems, and 
associated equipment.  It specifies a set of 128 characters (control 
characters and graphics characters such as letters, digits and 
symbols) with their coded representation.

In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year 
review of its approved standards, the development committee X3L2 
recommends this standard be reissued without change.
