The comment period extends from September 29, 1995 through November 28, 1995. This draft standard defines a notation for describing the structures of data volumes, files, records and fields to facilitate the moving of data files between computer systems. It provides a generalized syntax for describing the data records, but does not restrict nor define their contents. It is not designed as a record format for files within a system; these will be determined at the Applications level. This draft is being resubmitted for a third review due to substantive changes made by the developing committee X3T2, Data Interchange.
