X3 Announces the third Public Comment Period for X3.208:199x,
Transfer Syntax Description Notation

Washington D.C., August 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology is announcing the public review and comment
period for X3.208. The comment period extends from September 29, 1995
through November 28, 1995.

This draft standard defines a notation for describing the structures of data
volumes, files, records and fields to facilitate the moving of data files
between computer systems. It provides a generalized syntax for describing
the data records, but does not restrict nor define their contents. It is not
designed as a record format for files within a system; these will be
determined at the Applications level.

This draft is being resubmitted for a third review due to substantive
changes made by the developing committee X3T2, Data Interchange.

This draft can be purchased from the Global Engineering Documents, Inc.,
15 Inverness Way East, Englewood, CO 80112-5704. 800-854-7179 or
