X3 Announces the Public Comment Period for ANSI X3.16:1976,
Character Structure and Character parity Sense for Serial-By-Bit Data 
Communication in ASCII

** SUBMITTED FOR REAFFIRMATION **

Washington D.C., November 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, 
Information Technology is announcing the public review of 
ANSI X3.16:1976.  The comment period extends from November 24, 1995 
to January 26, 1996.

Specifies the character and sense of character parity for serial-by-bit, 
serial-by-character synchronous and asynchronous data communication in 
the American National Standard Code for Information Interchange, X3.4-
1968 (ASCII) and the codes invoked when applying the American National 
Standard Code Extension Techniques for Use with the 7-Bit Coded 
Character Set of American National Standard Code for Information 
Interchange, X3.41:1974.

In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year 
review of its approved standards, the development committee X3B5 
recommends this standard be reissued without change.
