The comment period extends from November 24, 1995 to January 26, 1996. Defines the interoperability-related requirements for link encryption applications confined to the link control layer (Level 2) and the physical interface layer (Level 1) as defined by ISO 7498. It covers the minimum requirements that shall be met to exchange encrypted information between interfacing equipment at each end of a communications link. In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year review of its approved standards, the development committee X3B5 recommends this standard be reissued without change.
