X3 Announces the Public Comment Period for ANSI X3.106:1983,
Modes of Operation for the Data Encryption Algorithm

** SUBMITTED FOR REAFFIRMATION **

Washington D.C., November 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology is announcing the public review of ANSI
X3.106:1983. The comment period extends from November 24, 1995 to
January 26, 1996.

This standard defines the mechanics of four modes of operation for the
data encryption algorithm (DEA). (See ANSI X3.92:1991 for a complete
DEA description). Use of this standard provides for interoperability of
products and facilitates the development of application standards that use
one or more of these modes of operation.

In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year
review of its approved standards, the development committee X3B5
recommends this standard be reissued without change.

All comments should be submitted to: X3 Secretariat, Lynn Barra, 1250
Eye Street NW, Washington DC 20005, lbarra@itic.nw.dc.us. Send a copy to
