X3 Announces the Public Comment Period for 
X3.284:199x, Uniform Health Care Identification Card 


Washington D.C., December 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee 
X3, Information Technology is announcing the public comment period for 
X3.285:199x.  The public review extends from January 19, 1996 to 
March 19, 1996.

This Draft American National Standard specifies directly or by reference 
the requirements for cards used in health care transactions.  It takes into 
consideration both human and machine aspects and states minimum 
requirements for conformity.  It contains physical characteristics, layout, 
data access techniques, data storage techniques, numbering system, 
registration procedures, but not security requirements.  Security measures 
are at the discretion of the card issuer.
