X3 Announces the Approval of a New Project AT Attachment + Packet Interface (ATA + PI)
Washington D.C., February 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, X3T13, AT Attachment. The proposed ATA + PI standard is intended to be a follow-on project to ATA-3 and ATAPI. It maintains a high degree of compatibility with the existing ATA interface and migrates the interface to meet the needs in an evolutionary way. ATA + PI is primarily intended to be a low-cost, efficient device interface that incorporates support for other types of devices (e.g. CD-ROM and tape drives). The next meeting of X3T13 is April 26, 1996 in Milpitas, CA in the Holiday Inn hosted by Quantum. For hotel information, call (408) 321-9500. Inquiries regarding this project should be sent to the acting Chairman of X3T13, Mr. Gene Milligan, Seagate Technology, PO Box 12313, M/S OKM 151, Oklahoma City, OK 73157. Email: gene_milligan@notes.seagate.com An initial call for possible patents and other pertinent issues (copyrights, trademarks) is now being issued.
