X3 Announces the Approval of a New Project
Proposal for 130 mm Rewritable and Read-only Optical Disk 
Cartridge, Capacity:  5,2 Gigabytes per Cartridge for Information 
Interchange 

Washington D.C., November 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee 
X3, Information Technology is announcing the approval of a new 
project for 130 mm Rewritable and Read-only Optical Disk Cartridge, 
Capacity:  5,2 Gigabytes per Cartridge for Information Interchange, 
with the work being done in Technical Committee X3B11, Optical 
Digital Data Disks.


The scope of the proposed standard will specify the environmental 
requirements for the physical, mechanical, magnetic and optical properties 
of, and the formatting and recording of rewritable and read-only data on a 
nominal 130 mm (5.25 inch) diameter optical disk with data capacity of 
approximately 5,200 Megabytes.


The next X3B11 meeting is scheduled for March 26-28, 1996 in 
San Francisco, CA.
