X3 Announces the Public Comment Period for the 
Reaffirmation of ANSI X3.183:1991, High-Performance Parallel 
Interface  (HIPPI) - Mechanical, Electrical and Signalling Protocol 
Specification (HIPPI-PH)

Washington D.C., May 1996 - Accredited Standards Committee 
X3, Information Technology is announcing the public comment period for 
X3.183:1991.  The public review extends from May 24, 1996 to July 23, 1996.

This standard provides the mechanical, electrical and signalling protocol 
specifications for an efficient simplex high-performance point-to-point interface 
between pieces of data-processing equipment.  The interface described in this 
document can be operated at peak data rates of 800 or 1600 Mbit/s, over 
distances of up to 25 m by means of copper cabling.  A distance-independent 
signalling protocol allows the average data rates to approach the peak data rates, 
even over distances longer than specified for the HIPPI-PH.

In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year review of 
approved standards, the developing committee, X3T11 recommends this 
standard be reissued, without change.
