Washington D.C., May 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology announces approval of this new project being
developed within Technical Committee, X3B5, Flexible Magnetic Media and
Formats.
This project is the fourth in an evolution of l/2-inch cartridge capacities in the
same media vehicle.
DLT-1 Format, (X3.242:1994), DLT-2 Format, (X3.266: l996); and DLT-3 Format,
(X3.282:199x). Because this project is a direct extension of the previous, those
documents also will directly form the basis for this draft document.
This standard represents the minimal environmental, mechanical and magnetic
requirements for a 20 Gigabyte Formatted 0.50 inch cartridge for data
interchange between systems. It also describes the format, DLT4, used in the
recorded portion of the proposed Standard.
The next two meetings of X3B5 are June 11-12, 1996 in Minneapolis, MN
and August 20-21, 1996 in San Francisco, CA. All organizations and individuals
who are materially or directly affected are invited to participate.
