X3 Announces the Public Comment Period for the
Reaffirmation of ANSI X3.124:1985, Computer Graphics - Graphical Kernel
System (GKS) Functional Description and ANSI X3.124.1:1985, GKS FORTRAN
Binding
Washington D.C., June 1996 - Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information
Technology is announcing the public comment period for X3.94:1985. The public
review extends from July 19, 1996 to September 17, 1996.
ANSI X3.124:1985 specifies a set of functions for computer graphics
programming (GKS). GKS is a basic graphics system for applications that produce
computer generated two dimensional pictures on line graphics or raster graphics
output devices. It supports operator input and interaction by supplying basic
functions for graphical input and picture segmentation. It allows storage and
dynamic modification of pictures.
ANSI X3.124.1:1985 specifies a language independent nucleus of a graphics
system. For integration into a programming language, GKS is embedded in a
language dependent layer obeying the particular conventions of that language.
This document specifies such a language dependent layer for the FORTRAN
language.
In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year review of
approved standards, the responsible committee, X3H3 recommends these
standards be reissued, without change.
