X3 Announces the Approval of a New Project, High-Performance Parallel Interface - Multiple Path (HIPPI-MP)
Washington D.C., July 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, X3T11, Device Level Interface. The reference number for this project is 1214-D. This project recommends the development of a standard specifying the formats and procedures for the segmentation and reassembly of large upper-layer protocol data units for transmission over multiple HIPPI Framing Protocol (HIPPI-FP) lower-layer protocol instances. The proposed standard will work with physical layer interfaces that support HIPPI-FP, e.g., HIPPI-PH and Fibre Channel. Upper-layer protocols that use a HIPPI-FP lower-layer will be able to use this standard. Changes to existing HIPPI standards and protocols are not proposed, anticipated, or desired, i.e., exiting implementations will not be invalidated. Inquiries regarding this project and other Fibre Channel and HIPPI projects should be sent to the Chairman of X3T10, Mr. Roger Cummings, Distributed Processing Technology, 140 Candace Dr., Maitland, FL 32751. Email: cummings_roger@dpt.com. The next two meetings of X3T11 are August 5-9, 1996 in the Boulder, CO area and October 7-11, 1996 in St. Petersburg Beach, FL. All organizations and individuals who are materially or directly affected are invited to participate. An initial call for possible patents and other pertinent issues (copyrights, trademarks) is now being issued. Please submit information on these issues to the X3 Secretariat at 1250 Eye Street NW, Suite 200, Washington DC 20005. Email: x3sec@itic.nw.dc.us FAX: (202)638-4922.
