X3 Announces the Public Review Comment Period for ISO/IEC CD 1989 Information Technology - Programming Languages, their environments and system software interfaces - Programming language COBOL
Washington D.C., September 1996 - Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology is announcing the public comment period for ISO/IEC CD 1989. Although the formal public review extends from September 27, 1996 to November 26, 1996, the U.S. TAG (X3J4) will accept comments immediately. This draft International Standard specifies: - The form of a program written in COBOL. - The effect of compiling and executing such a program. - The manner in which programs may be combined to form run-units. - The elements of the language for which a conforming implementation is required to supply a definition. - The elements of the language for which meaning is explicitly undefined. - The elements of the language that are dependent on the capabilities of the processor. This draft International Standard does not specify: - The means whereby a program written in COBOL is compiled into code executable by a processor. - The form or content of error or warning messages. Note: This draft international standard is being processed simultaneously as an American National Standard and an International Standard.
