X3 Announces the Public Comment Period for X3.63:1981, Interchangeable Magnetic Twelve-Disk Pack (100 Megabytes) X3.84:1981, Interchangeable Magnetic Twelve-Disk Pack (200 Megabytes) ** Submitted For Withdrawal **
Washington D.C., September 1996 - Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology is announcing the public comment period for the withdrawal of two ANSI Standards, X3.63:1981 and X3.84:1981. The public reviews extend from October 11, 1996 to December 10, 1996. ANSI X3.63:1981 specifies the general, physical and magnetic requirements for interchangeability of the magnetic twelve-disk pack, as required to achieve unrecorded pack interchange between disk storage's and associated information processing systems. The twelve-disk pack, with nineteen (19) recording surfaces and one (1) prerecorded servo surface, is of the type intended specifically for use with digital recording and reproducing equipments employing access mechanisms capable of positioning to four hundred and for (404) useable data tracks on each of the disk surfaces. The requirements for seven (7) additional track areas on each recording surface are identified for use as alternates in case of difficulty in reading or recording on any useable data track. ANSI X3.84:1981 specifies the general, physical, and magnetic requirements to ensure interchangeability of the twelve-disk pack as required to achieve unrecorded pack interchange between disk storage's and associated information processing systems. In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year review of its approved standards, these two standards were recommended for withdrawal by X3/OMC as both refers to out-of-date technology and conformance cannot be verified. Submit all comments to: X3 Secretariat, Attn.: Lynn Barra, 1250 Eye Street, NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20005, Email: lbarra@itic.nw.dc.us.
