X3 Announces the Approval for a New Project for Unrecorded
Magnetic Tape Cartridge for Information Interchange, 12.65 mm (0.498 in),
128-Track, Parallel Serpentine, 2550 ftpmm (64 770 ftpi)
Washington D.C., September 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology announces the approval of a new project being
developed in Technical Committee X3B5 - Flexible Magnetic Media and Formats.
This standard represents the minimum requirements for the recording and
retrieval of data on a 12.65 mm (0.498 in) magnetic tape cartridge in a 128
track format for data interchange between recording systems. This standard
will include requirements for physical, mechanical, magnetic and environmental
characteristics. This cartridge standard will include requirements for written
servo tracks.
