X3 Announces the Approval of Project Proposal for a Technical Report,
Methodology of Jitter Specification for 1 gigabaud serial links
(MJS)
Washington D.C., November 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology announces approval of this new project being
developed within Technical Committee, X3T11, Device Level Interface.
The reference number for this project is 1230-DT.
The purpose of this report is to provide background information for
revising the jitter specification within the FC-PHn document and to
increase the general knowledge of jitter and wander in gigabaud serial
transmission. The report will document recommended test methods in
order to clarify the jitter specifications. Additionally, documenting jitter
test methods and there is hope that this will motivate test and instrument
companies to create compliance test systems to support 1 gigabaud links.
A revised jitter allocation table reflecting system and network jitter
characteristics will be generated for proposed inclusion in a future FC-PHn
document. For example the operating disk drive or host adapter must
meet the jitter generation requirements at point S and the operating
network (transmitting system plus media) must meet the jitter generation
at point R.
