X3 Announces the Approval of Project Proposal, High-Performance Parallel
Interface - 6400 Mbit/s Physical Switch Control (HIPPI-6400-SC)
Washington D.C., November 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology announces approval of this new project being
developed within Technical Committee, X3T11, Device Level Interface.
The reference number for this project is 1231-D.
This project proposal recommends the development of a physical-layer
switch standard with the following goals:
- Support for 16 bit logical destination addresses.
- Ability to span multiple physical layer switches within a fabric.
- Support for physical layer switches with differing numbers of ports, all
within the same fabric.
- Specified reserved addresses to aid address self-discovery, switch
management, and switch control.
- Support for automatic configuration of switches within a fabric.
- Support for 4 Virtual Channels in each direction on a HIPPI-6400
interface.
