X3 Announces the Approval of Project Proposal, Fibre Channel Slotted Loop (FC-SL)
Washington D.C., November 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, X3T11, Device Level Interface. The reference number for this project is 1232-D. This project proposal recommends the development of a set of extended loop constructs beyond those defined in X3.272, FC-AL, and the definition of isochronous and time-deterministic services based on those extensions. Included within this scope are: a) The definition of Quality of Service characteristics, and methods for controlling them; b) The definition of capabilities necessary to monitor, manage and control the configuration of the loop, such as the definition of the length and frequency of defined time "slots"; c) Other capabilities which fit within the general scope of implementing support for the "real-time" class of applications This proposed standard may influence the development of standards being created under presently approved X3T11 projects. It is possible that this proposed standard might define desirable additional capabilities. Inquiries regarding this project and other Fibre Channel and HIPPI projects should be sent to the Chairman of X3T11, Mr. Roger Cummings, Distributed Processing Technology, 140 Candace Dr., Maitland, FL 32751. Email: cummings_roger@dpt.com. The next meeting of X3T11 is December 2-6, 1996 in the Bloomington, MN.
