X3 Announces the Public Review and Comment Period on the *Withdrawal*
of American National Standards for three standards in the area of IRDS
(Information Resource Dictionary System)
Washington D.C., December 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology announces the two-month public review, from
January 3, 1997 to March 4, 1997, to withdraw the ANSI IRDS Standards
(Information Resource Dictionary System):
X3.138:1988 Information Resource Dictionary System (IRDS)
X3.138a:1995 Supplement to X3.138-1988, Information Resource
Dictionary System (IRDS)
X3.185:1992 Information Resource Dictionary System (IRDS) Services

X3.195:1991 IRDS Export/Import File Format
The X3 Subgroup (X3H4) that developed the IRDS standards was disbanded
in July 1996 because lack of interest. The public review to withdraw the
IRDS standards (X3.138, X3.138a, X3.185 and X3.195) and related technical
reports will indicate if there is any value in retaining them.
