Washington D.C., November 1996 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, X3T11, : Fibre Channel Audio- Video (FC-AV).The reference number for this project is 1237-D.
This proposal recommends the development of a Fibre Channel Audio- Video standard to address the transport of existing representations of audio and video information over Fibre Channel and the interoperation of segments based on Fibre Channel with analog and digital equipment. Included within the recommended scope of this project are:
1) The creation of mappings to Fibre Channel of the formats defined by the ITU-RBT-601 digital television standard and its derivatives;
2) The creation of mappings to Fibre Channel of the formats defined by the ISO/IEC 13818 family of standards (which include MPEG and related compression systems);
3) The definition of a recommended practice for the synchronization of a Fibre Channel segment with existing digital and analog segments synchronized using methods such as system synchronization and a standard time code;
4) The creation of a coherent framework to be used by the mappings in 1) and 2) above and by other and future mappings of audio and video representations;
5) Support for film formats and compression schemes, existing compressed audio definitions, RGB and YUV video formats, multiple pixel formats and computer Audio-Video Information profiles where appropriate;
6) Support for existing studio machine control methodologies;
7) Guidance on system issues such as error policies and bandwidth management schemes.
