X3 Announces the Public Review Comment Period for ISO/IEC DIS 11404, Information technology - Programming languages, their environments and system software interfaces - Language -independent datatypes

Washington D.C., December 1996 - Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Technology is announcing the public comment period for ISO/IEC DIS 11404. The public review extends from December 20, 1996 to February 18, 1997

This International Standard specifies the nomenclature and shared semantics for a collection of datatypes commonly occurring in programming languages and software interfaces, referred to as the Language-Independent (LI) Datatypes. It specifies both primitive datatypes, in the sense of being defined ab initio with reference to other datatypes, and non-primitive datatypes, in the sense of being wholly or partly defined in terms of other datatypes. The specification of datatypes in this International Standard is language-independent" in the sense that the datatypes specified are classes of datatypes of which the actual datatypes used in programming languages and other entities requiring the concept datatype are particular instances.

Note: This draft international standard has been processed simultaneously as an American National Standard and an International Standard. Any comments received during this public review period will addressed and considered for future revision.
