NCITS Announces the Public Review Comment Period for ISO/IEC 9075-4, Information technology - Database languages - SQL - Part 4: Persistent Stored Modules (SQL/PSM), for Adoption as an American National Standard

Washington D.C., May 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards is announcing the public comment period for ISO/IEC 9075-4. The public review extends from June 6, 1997, 1996 to August 5, 1997.

ISO/IEC 9075-4 specifies the syntax and semantics of a database language for declaring and maintaining persistent database language routines either in SQL-server modules of as standalone schema-level routines, and invoking them from programs written in a standard programming language. The database language for procedures and SQL-invoked routines includes:

It also includes the definition of the Information Schema tables that contain schema information pertaining to SQL-server modules and SQL- invoked routines. The context for ISO/IEC 9075 is described by the Reference Model of Data Management (ISO/IEC 10032:1993).

Note: This international standard is being adopted as an American National Standard; originally the U.S. voted to disapprove on the Draft International Standard. As a result, substantive changes were made that were satisfactory to the U.S. and incorporated into the final publication.

The public review period closes on August 5, 1997. All commentors are urged to submit comments as early in the public review period as possible. Public review comments received after August 5, 1997 will be addressed and considered for future balloting and/or revision.
