Washington D.C., July 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) is announcing the public comment period for ANSI ANSI X3.78:1981. The public review extends from August 1, 1997 to September 30, 1997.
This standard establishes four levels, with three categories within the more basic three levels, for the representation of vertical carriage positioning characters, and the function each is intended to produce when it is recorded as the first character in a record intended to be printed.
In accordance with ANSI procedures and NCITS, which require a five-year review of approved standards, OMC recommends this standard be withdrawn as the technology is outmoded and is not currently being implemented.
