NCITS announces the Public Comment Period for the Reaffirmation of X3.4:1986 [1992], Information Processing - Coded Character Sets 7-Bit American National Standard Code for Information Interchange (7-bit ASCII)

Washington D.C., July 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) is announcing the public comment period for X3.4:1986 [1992]. The public review extends from July 18, 1997 to September 16, 1997.

This standard specifies a set of 128 characters (control characters and graphic characters, such as letters, digits, and symbols) with their coded representation. The American National Standard Code for Information Interchange may also be identified by the acronym ASCII (pronounced ask-ee). This standard is the U.S. national version of the International Standard for Information Processing - ISO 7-bit Coded Character Set for Information Interchange, ISO 646-1983..

In accordance with ANSI procedures, which require a five-year review of approved standards, the responsible committee, L2 recommends this standard be reissued, without change.
