Washington D.C., July 1997 -- NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) announces approval of this revised project being developed within Technical Committee, B11, Optical Digital Data Disks. The reference number for this project is 1159-I.
This standard will specify the environmental requirements for the physical, mechanical, magnetic and optical properties of, and the formatting and recording of rewritable and read-only data on a nominal 130 mm (5.25 inch) diameter optical disk with a data capacity of approximately 5,200 Megabytes.
