NCITS Announces the Approval of Project Proposal, Identification Cards - Motor Vehicle Drivers License

Washington D.C., July 1997 -- NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, B10, Identification Cards and Related Devices. The reference number for this project is 1242-D.

The current American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Best Practices documents will be expanded to include further refinements and formatting so as to be converted into an ANSI standard.

The AAMVA Best Practices embrace digital imaging, printed text, magnetic stripe and bar code technologies. Additional technology standards will be incorporated including integrated circuits and optical memory. Other emerging technologies may be considered so as to continually push the envelope.

The AAMVA Magnetic Stripe Best Practices specifies data contents for the ISO magnetic stripe track 2 location of ISO 7811-2, 4 & 6. The AAMVA magnetic stripe data content track one and three requirements differ from current ISO standards.
