Washington D.C., August 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) is announcing the public comment period for ANSI X3.55:1992. The public review extends from August 15, 1997 to October 14, 1997.
This standard for an unrecorded cartridge containing 0.250-inch (6.30 mm) magnetic tape presents the minimum requirements for the mechanical and magnetic interchangeability of the cartridge between information processing systems, communications systems, and associated equipment utilizing a standard code for information-interchange, as agreed upon by interchange parties. This standard refers solely to the magnetic tape and the cartridge with various length of tape for digital recording and complements American National Standard Recorded Magnetic Tape Cartridge for Information Interchange, 4 Track, 0.250 in (6.30 mm), 1600 bpi (63 bpmm) Phase Encoded, ANSI X3.56:1986.
In accordance with ANSI procedures and NCITS, which require a five-year review of approved standards, Technical Committee B5 recommends this standard be reissued, without change.
