NCITS Announces the Public Comment Period for the Reaffirmation of ANSI X3.136:1986[R1992], Serial Recorded Magnetic Tape Cartridge for Information Interchange - 4 and 9 Track, 0.250 inch (6.30 mm), 8000 bpi (315 bpmm) Streaming Mode, Group Code Recording

Washington D.C., August 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) is announcing the public comment period for ANSI X3.136:1986[R1992]. The public review extends from August 15, 1997 to October 14, 1997.

This American National Standard is intended to provide a format and recording standard for an 8000-bpi (315-bpmm) streaming 0.250-inch (6.3-mm)-wide, 4- and 9-track, magnetic tape in a cartridge to be used for information interchange between information processing systems, communication systems, and associated equipment utilizing a standard code for information interchange, as agreed upon by the interchange parties. This standard specifies the requirements for the 4-track and 9-track formats. The two formats shall not exist on the same cartridge. This standard refers solely to recording on the 0.250-inch (6.30-mm) magnetic tape cartridge and complements American National Standard, ANSI X3.127.

In accordance with ANSI procedures and NCITS, which require a five-year review of approved standards, Technical Committee B5 recommends this standard be reissued, without change.
