Washington D.C., August 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, T11, I/O Interface - Device Level. The reference number for this project is 1245-D.
This project proposal recommends the development of a high-performance data transfer protocol standard with the following goals:
- Small control messages to pre-arrange buffers at each end of the
transfer.
- A message syntax that allows hardware-based message delivery to the
pre-arranged buffers at the receiving end.
- Separate logical control and data channels, which may use different
physical media, or may share a single physical medium.
- Support for "Get" and "Put" operations.
- Support for using buffer indices and 64-bit addresses. - Parameters exchanged between the end devices for port selection, transfer identification, and operation validation. - Efficient mapping between the sender's and receiver's natural buffer sizes. - Provisions for re-sending partial transfers for error recovery.
Inquiries regarding this project [project 1245-D] and other Fibre Channel and HIPPI projects should be sent to the Chairman of T11, Mr. Roger Cummings, Distributed Processing Technology, 140 Candace Dr., Maitland, FL 32751. Email: cummings_roger@dpt.com.
The next meeting of T11 is October 9, 1997 in Tucson, Arizona. All organizations and individuals who are materially or directly affected are invited to participate.
