NCITS Announces the Approval of Project Proposal, Magnetic Tape Cartridge for Information Interchange, 0.50 in (12.65 mm) Serial Serpentine 128- Track, 62 500 bpi (2460 bpmm) DLT3XT Format

Washington D.C., September 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, B5, Digital Magnetic Tape. The reference number for this project is 1250-D.

This proposed standard represents:

- capabilities which results in a 50% increase in native storage capacity over the fully compatible DLT3 format, as described in X3.282:1996

- the minimal environmental, mechanical and magnetics requirements for a 15 Gigabyte Formatted 0.50 inch cartridge for data interchange between systems

- it also describes the format, DLT3XT, used in the recorded portion of the proposed standard.
