Washington D.C., September 1997 -- JTC 1 TAG (U.S. TAG to ISO/IEC JTC 1, Information Technology) announces the JTC 1 submission of a Public Available Specification (PAS) for Fast-Track processing, ISO/IEC DIS 15879, Information technology - Systems management - Distributed software administration - DCE-RPC interoperability (XDSA-DCE).
This draft is a submission from X/Open of a PAS that was produced in accordance with the criteria specified in the Transposition of Publicly Available Specifications into International Standards: A Management Guide. An explanatory report is included with the draft.
This draft standard defines a mechanism using DCE RPC for providing interoperability for the POSIX 1387.2 standard for Software Administration. The POSIX 1387.2 standard does not provide for interoperability. When the POSIX 1387.2 standard is taken together with the specification's use of the DCE RPC technology to provide interoperability between implementations, a full distributed software administration environment is defined.
The U.S. TAG to ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC 22/WG 15 POSIX will be developing a U.S. recommendation to be approved by the JTC 1 TAG. The Chair of the U.S. TAG for SC 22/WG 15 is Roger Martin at rjmartin@eng.sun.com.
The JTC 1 TAG is soliciting comments from the U.S. community on the appropriateness of the submission of this standard for Fast-Track processing in JTC 1.
The announcement period extends from October 24, 1997 through November 23, 1997.
