NCITS Announces the Public Comment Period for System-Neutral CLFILE (Addendum 1 to Programming Language APT, X3.37:1995)

Washington D.C., October 1997 - NCITS Announces the Public Comment Period forExtended CLDATA Point Records (Amendment 2 to X3.37:1995). Development of this draft standard is being done in technical committee J7, APT.

The public review extends from October 10, 1997 to December 9, 1997.

A system-neutral CLDATA (SCL) process-level language, defining tool motion and other machine functions required for numerically-controlled manufacturing, is included in the 1995 revision of the APT Standard (X3.37:1995). SCL specifies a simple set of APT commands, selected and developed in light of the commonality of the various existing CLDATA implementations. Its purpose is to create a standard definition of CLDATA for use throughout the industry. This addendum has been created to assist non-APT numerical control systems and CLDATA developers and users with a tutorial-style document containing prose, examples, and diagrams that describe SCL. The purpose of this technical report is to serve as a tutorial for those portions of the APT Standard (X3.37:1995) and its interpretive Technical Report (X3/TR-10:1996) that define SCL.

This addendum also includes additional features that have been identified since the completion of X3.37:1995 and need to be addressed prior to the next scheduled revision of X3.37. In addition, this addendum eliminates the possible ambiguity that can exist in the use of multiple CLDATA points in a single 'MOVE' command. The change to only one CLDATA point per command is consistent with the current known implementations of SCL
