NCITS Announces the Public Comment Period for the Reaffirmation of X3.61:1986 [R1992], Representation of Geographic Point Locations for Information Interchange

Washington D.C., November 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) is announcing the public comment period for X3.61:1986 [R1992]. The public review extends from November 7, 1997 to January 6, 1998.

This standard is designed to establish uniform formats for geographic point location data. It provides a means for representing these data in digital form for the purpose of interchanging information among data systems and for improving clarity and accuracy in interpersonal communications.

In accordance with ANSI procedures and NCITS, which require a five- year review of approved standards, OMC recommends this standard recommends this standard be reissued, without change.
