STEP 1: Search ANSI's NSSN database ("Your national resource for global standards") at http://www.nssn.org/search.html
The NSSN contains over 250,000 references to standards from more than 600 developers worldwide.
These have been grouped into six categories.
The NSSN does not contain information about standards developed in consortia, special interest groups, corporations or other private entities.
SAMPLE SEARCH: Information technology - AT Attachment-8 - Serial
Transport (ATA8-ST)
RESULT: No results.
EXPAND THE SEARCH: ATA
RESULT: 11 approved and draft standards. The developers include INCITS,
CENELEC, ETSI, DIN, EURO
STEP 2: If you have identified documents similar to the one you need, try the web sites of the standards developer(s) first.
Use the developers acronym list (http://www.nssn.org/acrodesc.html) to find the link to one or more developers. For example, INCITS will link to http://www.incits.org/ and from there, click on STANDARDS INFORMATION (http://www.incits.org/stds_info.htm) to see NEW PROJECTS (http://www.incits.org/new_work.htm) or PROJECTS PENDING APPROVAL (see http://www.incits.org/pending_p_p.htm).
If unsuccessful, try the INCITS search engine.
STEP 3: To look for projects of groups not tracked by ANSI, try the traditional search engines: e.g.,
STEP 4: If all else fails, call the standards developer for more information. Standards developers may have more current information or they may know of additional sources for you to check, or you can pay for help. e.g.
