Subject:  The US National Body votes to Approve CS1/07-0255 as the US NB response to N5841, ISO/IEC 2nd CD 9797-1 Information technology – Security techniques – Message authentication codes (MACs) – Part 1: Mechanisms using a block cipher.  N5841 is attached.
 
Statement:  This is a 23-day Accelerated Letter Ballot, commencing on October 15, 2007.  Please note that this ballot closes at midnight EST Tuesday November 6, 2007. 
 
Background:   This was sent to CS1 members as a Straw poll, which ended on September 28, 2007.  One contribution was received, from NIST/NSA.  It is attached as CS1/07-0255, and consists of 2 editorial comments.  In addition the recommendation from NSA (D. Wallner) is to Approve with editorial comments, thus the wording of the question for ballot below.
