Ballot Closes: Midnight EST Friday November 23, 2007 Return to:

Subject: The US National Body votes to Approve FDIS 18014-1, Text
for ISO/IEC FDIS 18014-1 -- Information technology -- Security
techniques -- Time-stamping services -- Part 1: Framework. N5815,
the Text for ISO/IEC FDIS 18014-1 is attached.
Statement: This is a 30-day Letter Ballot. Please note that
this ballot closes at midnight EST Friday November 23, 2007. Just
a reminder that not voting on 30-day letter ballots can result in
voting jeopardy.
Background: Previously the US voted to disapprove FCD 18014-1,
but changed our vote to yes at the St. Petersburg meetings once all our
comments were accepted. (Look at the last page of N5815, which
states that negative votes were satisfactorily resolved and changed to
approval.) The Dispositions of Comments is document N5816, and is
attached. The US had 10 comments--7 editorial and 3
technical--and all US comments were accepted.
I sent out a Straw poll open from October 15th to the 24th, to gather
any final, minor editorial comments. I received a set of Proposed
US NB Comments, all minor in nature, from Surety/Dimitri Andivahis,
along with Surety’s
proposal that the US National Body vote to APPROVE the
FDIS. The proposed US
NB comments are captured in CS1/07-0260, and are attached.
Please include the following statement when reviewing FDIS 18014-1
within your
organization:
"Permission is granted by the American National Standards Institute
(ANSI) to electronically reproduce this draft International Standard
for purpose of review and comment related to the preparation of the
U.S. position, provided this notice is included. All other rights
are reserved."
Question for ballot:

Recall that if you vote NO or ABSTAIN, you are required to provide
comments (in the case of a NO, please indicate, if applicable, what
changes in the proposed would permit you to vote YES).
American National Standards are developed by the voluntary
participation of all parties and with the intention and expectation
that the standards will be suitable for wide application. Since their
use is likewise voluntary, an affirmative vote does not commit an
organization or group represented on the committee to the use of the
American National Standard under consideration. If you find that
you cannot vote YES and wish to vote NO or ABSTAIN, please state this
and explain the reasons for your position in the space provided or on a
separate sheet.
