B10.6  General Information

On 1 December 2007, InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) Task Groups B10.3 Card Durability and related Test Methods and B10.6 Physical Characteristics, Magnetic Stripes, and Test Methods were merged to form  INCITS Task Group B10.11 Physical Characteristics.  The INCITS B10.11 Task Group assumed responsibility for standardization in:

ID Card Physical Characteristics
Magnetic stripes:

Low Coercivity
High Coercivity
High Coercivity /High Density
Savings  Passbook magnetic stripes

Embossing
Thin Flexible Cards
Test methods for measuring compliance to the above standards

All of B10.6 's work is International in scope as it is the US TAG to ISO/IEC_JTC1 SC17 ID Cards and personal identification, Working Group 1 (WG1)

B10.6, Task Group, whose Parent Group is INCITS_B10, is organized as follows:

Notes:

1.

B10.6 has formed Task Forces in the past for projects such as Card Durability Test Methods, Thin Flexible Cards, and High Coercivity Magnetic stripes. These task Forces have been disbanded when the project was completed, although Card Durability Task Force was transferred to B10.3 in 2000.  There are no B10.6 task forces at this time.

2.

Test method developments are limited to those necessary to measure compliance to minimum requirements specified in the base standards.  Refer to B10.3 for Card Durability Test Methods

3.

Published standards can be obtained through ANSI.org_Purchase Standards or INCITS_Standards Store

4.

New Work Proposal has been approved in 2005, currently in Final Committee Draft (FCD) status

5.

New Work Proposal has been approved in 2006, currently in Working Draft (WD) status
