B10 Honor Roll

The InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) is accredited by ANSI to develop standards for Information Technology. INCITS B10, ID Cards and Related Devices is responsible for Standardization in the area of identification cards, and devices associated with their use in inter-industry applications and international interchange.

Specific areas include test methods, physical characteristics, card service life, embossing, magnetic stripe, Integrated circuit cards with contacts, contactless integrated circuit cards, optical memory cards, machine readable travel documents, driver license ID cards, health care payment ID cards, access control cards, and other aspects of personal identification cards.

Most of B10's work is International in scope as it is the US TAG to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC17 ID Cards and personal identification.

Notes:
  1. INCITS Task Group B10.11 Physical Characteristics was formed on 1 December 2007 through the merger of Task Groups B10.3 Card Durability and related Test Methods and B10.6 Physical Characteristics, Magnetic Stripes, and Test Methods
  2. INCITS Task Group B10.12 Integrated Circuit Cards with Contacts was formed on 1 December 2007 through the merger of Task Groups B10.1 Integrated Circuit Cards with Contacts and B10.9 Interoperability for Smart Cards
  3. USRC (US Registration Committee) is not an INCITS organization, however, since it is the US TAG for SC17 WG5, it meets with B10  and provides recommendations related to SC17 WG5 issues. Its expertise is also used for guidance on financial transaction card  issues such as SC17 WG7 issues.
  4. The INCITS B10 Project for US drivers License Standard has been canceled.  Work continues on the International Drivers License standard.
  5. SC17 has established a liaison with ISO TC 215 Health Informatics  to receive drafts of health Care ID Cards standards for comment by SC17 (See ISO/IEC JTC1 SC17 October, 2003 Resolution 487)

Meetings

INCITS B10 generally meets three times per year, January, April/May and August/September. The B10 Plenary meeting is preceded by the Task Group meetings in the early part of the week, and the Plenary scheduled as the last meeting, normally on Thursday.
