Mats Wichmann is a new Alternate Member of the ISGL

ISGL is now doing technical work involving establishing the US position
and comments on the LSB PAS rather than dealing with policy issues,
noting that Microsoft is not technically involved in the Linux area.

Study Group on Linux
|
|
| 3.1 Convenor's Report to the INCITS Executive
Board |
(D. Thewlis) |
Reference: LX/05-0001
No comments or suggestions were made
about the Convenor's Report.
| 3.2 Status of Ongoing Development of
Organizational Positions and Comments |
(D. Thewlis) |
Mr. Stoughton observed that the LSB
working group in the FSG continues to handle defect reports on LSB
2.0.1, the version submitted to JTC 1 as a PAS, and continues to
resolve those defects. In the near future LSB 2.1 will be
released. The number of changes from 2.0.1 are relatively small,
but it does address comments that Mr, Stoughton expects will be
included in the U.S. position and comments. In particular
stylistic updates have been made to more closely match the ISO style
guide, and in some cases of weak normative references the sections have
been rewritten to include the information in the base document.
Mr. Stoughton encourages ISGL members when developing their comments to
determine if they have been addressed.
Mr. Jameson noted that it would make
sense for the FSG to contribute something towards close of ballot
period indicating what has been resolved in the updated version of the
LSB that may appear in comments, thus allowing one round of ballots and
updates, and Mr. Stoughton indicated that this was the intent of the
FSG.
Usenix expects that its comments will
be on the differences between 2.0.1 and 2.1 which will probably run to
100 or so individual comments. Both Intel and HP indicated that
this was their expectation for their comments as well.
Mr. Stoughton observed that at the
Austin Group meeting last week, one agenda item was reviewing the
differences between the POSIX standard and the Linux DIS, and the list
has been reduced to a small number of manageable groups of
problems. The intent is to move forward to address these, so it
is safe to say the intent is to move towards convergence or at least
prevent divergence.
