LINUX STUDY GROUP
RECOMMENDATION TO
THE INCITS
EB ON (SC22docs.2619) N4160 -
CD REGISTRATION AND APPROVAL BALLOT FOR ISO/IEC CD 9945, POSIX
Dave Thewlis
Convenor, INCITS Linux Study Group
1. The SC 22 Secretariat has circulated two letter
ballots on POSIX via JTC 1 SC 22 N 4160, CD Registration and Approval
Ballot for
ISO/IEC CD 9945, POSIX
2. As the United States no longer has a technical committee
on POSIX, the INCITS Executive Board will submit the U.S. votes on
this ballot to SC 22. It is our understanding that the INCITS
Executive Board will determine its votes at its
January, 2007, meeting.
3. The INCITS Study Group on Linux has been tasked with
providing appropriate recommendations to the INCITS Executive Board on
POSIX matters as they are closely related to Linux. Therefore,
the INCITS Study Group on Linux recomments that the U.S. vote as
follows:
N4160 Part 1, CD REGISTRATION:
YES
N4160 Part 2, CD APPROVAL BALLOT:
NO: Comments: The US supports the
progression of this document but notes the other negative ballot
comments submitted to the Austin Group during this open ballot
process. The US is committed to working with the Austin Group to
resolve these comments. At that point, the US will withdraw any
objection.
4. These recommendations are supported unanimously by the
five voting members of the INCITS Study Group on Linux:
Hewett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Sun Microsystems, and USENIX..
Respectfully Submitted,
Dave Thewlis
Convenor, INCITS Study Group on Linux
